It’s that time again already! Time to sign up for the summer 2012 season from Millsap Farm if you haven’t already. Our season is off to a great start, with green tomatoes on the greenhouse tomatoes, lettuce everywhere, a bumper crop of garlic growing in the field, and a new season of possibility spread out before us. We are changing things up a little this year, by including some supplemented veggies in the shares. This means that if we come up short on some of our staples, like tomatoes, cucumbers, or greenbeans, then we’ll purchase those from other farmers and supply those to the CSA. Having a very challenging growing year last summer convinced us that this is a good way to ensure high quality and quantity for our members. This produce will always be local, and always be labelled as to how it was raised, and where it came from. Items we anticipate supplementing this summer are; canteloupe, sweet corn, watermelon, and potatoes (we have planted less of these space hogging crops than in years past, in an effort to keep our land better irrigated). The bottom line is that we want to ensure the best quality and quantity possible, so you maximize your food dollars, while supporting local farmers and sustainable agriculture. We want you to be excited and satisfied everytime you look in your csa box. So if you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time and space. Our first harvest will be May 15, and we are looking forward to it.
