It’s a hot one on the farm today, with a little breeze to keep us from melting. Summer crops are starting to ripen, so you’ll see bell peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers in your share today. This time of year we switch to a siesta schedule, starting at 5:30a.m., and stopping for a long break after lunch. This schedule keeps us out of the worst of the sun and heat, but we are still very glad to go in at lunch, as it’s pretty hot by 12:30… Nevertheless, we love the work, and we especially love CSA day, when we get to see the fruits of our labors go home to your kitchens, where they will nourish all the eaters in your home.
In today’s harvest you’ll find:
- Head Lettuce
- Bell peppers, green and purple
Half shares only;
- Cherry tomatoes
Whole shares only;
- Chiogga beets (with amazing concentric stripes inside)
- Slicing tomatoes (just the very beginning of the season on these)
- Dino Kale
- Green Beans from the amish produce auction, probably conventionally raised.
Hope you enjoy eating the veggies even more than we enjoy raising them. Come on out and have pizza with us sometime, details are on the website https://millsapfarms.wordpress.com/pizza-a-place-to-party/
